Horse racing as a sport has evolved a lot over the past years. Previously it was only restricted to flat racing but now many new forms of horse racing have come up. In various countries, various kinds and types of horse racing events are followed. The United States of America, being the hub of horse racing, has a long list of different horse racing games. The style of racing, the distance of the race and the types of events vary highly from country to country. As different counties have different climate, racing conditions and breed of horses, a difference can be easily made out.

In the USA

In the United States, horse races occur on flat surfaces which are either made of dirt, grass or polytrack. Mostly thoroughbred racing occurs on such tracks. However, other kind of tracks allows Quarter horse racing and harness racing, or various combinations of these races. Racing of horses with other breeds such as the Arabian breed is limited.

In Europe

In Ireland horse racing is very popular. The famous “Point to Pointing” originated in Ireland and is even continued there today. Out there jump racing is popular than flat racing. The Palio of Italy is also very popular when it comes to horse racing events.
