Handicapping, in games and sports, is a practice of giving advantage by scoring compensation or any other kind of advantage given to participants for equalizing the chances of winning the race. The word handicapping also refers to different kinds of methods through which the advantage is calculated. A more experienced player is handicapped so that a less experienced player can participate in the sport but at the same time the fairness of the sport is maintained. Handicapping is an important part of horse racing and it takes place in this sport very frequently.

Handicapping in Horse Racing

In horse racing horses carry lead weights during the race, which handicap’s the speed of the horse. Such kind of race is also known as a “Handicap”. These weights add to the jockey’s weight, giving the horse his assigned impost. The jockeys have pockets in their saddle pads which are known as lead pads to carry the lead weights. Different weights are assigned to different jockeys by the racing secretary, which are based on various factors such as performance and distance. Admiral Rous, who was a steward of a jockey club, introduced the weight for age scale, on the basis of which handicapping is commonly done.

Horse racing never gets better than this, especially for the 5 year old horse Grey. Grey, who is quite known for winning his last 2 races at Deauville, could have never been so lucky in horse racing. Grey finished 4th behind Sakhee’s horse in this same event in the previous year and also came second at Haydock in a prestigious horse racing tournament. He came behind the Red Clubs on soft ground conditions which favour him the most. It is said if Grey gets the similar ground conditions then there is nobody who can beat him.

Freddie Head was really pleased when he witnessed the rain at the tracks. He said “The recent race was a hilarious race. He was very going very fast and then he got hit from behind. Sakhee’s horse got very badly injured and he hit my horse. He’s a bit weird now in this  age of his and he doesn’t like it anymore”

Mr. Head added a lot of praising words regarding Grey, not that he said anything against D’Or, but now Head is expecting a lot from Marchand D’Or. Freddie Head does not believe that D’Or gave the best of him at Royal Ascot and is expecting to see a much better and improved performance at Darley July Cup at Newmarket on this Friday.
